Pelican Hill – located in Newport Coast, California, Pelican Hill is not only one of the premier golf courses in America, it also sits on a 5-Star resort that would complete any golfer’s dream vacation. There are two World Class golf courses – the North Course and South Course. The South Course skirts the Pacific Ocean on select holes and is the one most tourists will want to play. I’ve had the pleasure of playing this course seven times and it never disappoints. The weather is almost always perfect and the scenery is usually clear. Pelican Hill is unique for its views which can distract you as you try to minimize the number of balls you will lose. Just slightly off most fairways and you’ll find yourself in a delicate ecosystem that in many cases is protected. This is truly one of Southern California’s treasures which is reflected in the greens fees. Standard rate is $320, twilight is $180 and if you’re staying at the resort (which will cost you over $500 per night) then you get a $20 discount. I was fortunate to have had an expense account in a past life where I was able to experience this course over half a dozen times, but today it’s become too pricey to enjoy on a regular basis so I’ll keep it mind for special occasions only.
