I’m not mad at Merrill Streep for squandering her moment while accepting her lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes, I just feel sorry for her. A few years ago I saw an interview with Jaycee Dugard. She was the 11 year old who was kidnapped and held captive for 18 years while she was chained, raped and forced to give birth to two girls who were fathered by a deranged psychopathic kidnapper. She was asked in an interview how she felt about her kidnappers, Phillip Garrido and his wife. Her response was amazing. She said that if she continues to think about him and what he has taken away from her (which is her entire youth and innocence) that he wins and continues to hold her (mentally) captive. So she said the only way to move on, is to forget about him.
This is some sound advice that Merrill Streep should take. I’ve never been a fan, but I’ve seen her movies. Here she is accepting a lifetime achievement award by the Golden Globe Awards for her decades of great work, and she squanders it by talking negatively about the President-Elect, Donald Trump. Let’s put these two women side by side. One was held captive, raped, and forced to father two children by a madman and she refuses to waste her energy and life by being mad at him. The other is a privileged Hollywood actress who was never physically, emotionally or directly harmed by Donald Trump, but she is so consumed with hate for him (because she doesn’t agree with his politics), that she used her moment to not only bash him, but also add NFL and MMA fans to her “basket of deplorable.”
I watch the NFL and occasionally MMA fights, plus I voted for Trump. So I guess Merrill and I won’t be Facebook friends. Furthermore, while I won’t ask her to watch my YouTube videos, I will certainly not watch another second of her movies. Rather than using your fame to exhibit your misery about Donald Trump, you should use it make a difference in the next election. If you really care about who wins, use your resources to get your candidate elected. However, you’ll need to venture outside of California and New York because the liberals already have the coasts locked up. Miss Streep, you’ll need to go to places like Iowa, Mississippi and Kansas. You may have to leave your comfort zone of 5-Star resorts and private jets, but since you care so much about the future of America, this should be a small compromise.
